Meet Miles the Muskrat and the Riverbank Friends
A quick introduction to the characters you will meet in the Miles the Muskrat books, drawn only from facts already on this site. No invented backstories; just who Miles and Bryn are in the stories as published.
Miles the Muskrat
Miles is a young muskrat who feels different from the other muskrats in his riverbank village. He loves order and is sensitive to loud sounds, and in Special Spark he wonders if he might be a robot, then discovers his “special spark” is what makes him shine. Each story celebrates individuality, kindness, and connection, with themes that gently reflect traits associated with autism, without labels.
Bryn
Bryn is a beaver Miles befriends when beaver neighbors move in beside the riverbank. In Miles the Muskrat and the New Neighbors, Miles faces uncertainty at first, then friendship grows. Beavers and muskrats share the riverbank: room for every kind of heart.
Life along the riverbank
The series is set in Miles’ riverbank village, a gentle world of quiet courage, new neighbors, and belonging. Stories are read-aloud ready for bedtime, classrooms, and couch cuddles (ages 2–10).
